The Adrenalin is set apart from other Explorer models by its 20-inch oversized polished-aluminum wheels, its blacked-out grille, headlights set in black bezels, and a lowered front and rear fascia, which give it a hug-the-ground appearance.
Although this model will be produced at the factory, it will have the look of a custom-modded vehicle. "Everything is a little bit louder and a little bit larger," noted Ford designer Pat Schiavone, in commenting on the special edition Explorer.
Other analysts have noted that as quality improves among various automotive brands, design will arise as a means of distinguishing one brand from another. Since events like SEMA are very design-driven (with all sorts of customized parts, materials, and add-ons available), and very popular, some of the trends seen at SEMA will no doubt continue to influence the decisions made by major manufacturers in the years to come.
Ford will make about 6000 of the limited-edition Adrenalins, and they are expected to become available in January, 2008, for this model year only. Starting at a base price of just under $30,000, Adrenalins will come in four colors:black, white suede, silver birch metallic, and Colorado red.
