Chrysler Press is a Full Court of Toyota Rhetoric

So, once again the Chrysler Corp. is called the "New Chrysler". Sounds a little Iacoca, doesn't it? But this time the guy who is supposed to lead Chrysler -- excuse us -- the New Chrysler to the promised land is Jim Press, formerly of Toyota.

That's right! Toyota. Welcome back to our side, Jim.

Anyway, ever since the New Chrysler made its split with DaimlerChrysler, people have been wondering what kind of company it would be. Would the fact that it was owned by the so-called wolf in sheep's clothing Cerberus Capital have any effect?

Press was able to take some time to explain to auto journalists where he wanted to take Chrysler during a Chrysler dealer meeting in Las Vegas recently. Noteworthy points include:

  • Chrysler's model range will be looked at and evaluated but not necessarily made smaller.
  • Chrysler will offer two mode hybrid versions of its large SUVs and Press said that, "Eventually everything will be hybrid." Look for more diesels from Chrysler supplied by Mercedes-Benz.
  • Chrysler will be focusing on the mainstream but will *** an eye over at SRT.
  • Jeep will remain focused on off-road.
  • Chrysler will evolve into a global organization that competes in global markets.

More details can be found at Motor Trend. Our take? Nice talk. Now let's see the walk.
