According to X-bits Labs, companies considering the move include Garmin International, TomTom International and Mitac International.
The three companies are the world's top three PND manufacturers. TomTom has about 37 percent of the market followed by Garmin with 25 percent, then Mitac with 20 percent.
As you can imagine, incorporating television into "autotainment" systems has a lot of detractors, something the manufacturers acknowledge. Such systems could potentially distract drivers and increase accidents, something competitors like cellphones are all-too familiar.
Then why do it? Said systems would separate their products from the competition and, hopefully, attract buyers.
Our take? We'd love such a system. Of course, we'd want it installed after we have the self-driving car.
