Ten Cars with an Ugly Stick

U.S.-based Hagerty Insurance of Traverse City, Michigan, recently did a study of, well, the top ten ugliest cars in history and, boy, was it eye-opening (and we don't mean that as a compliment).

American Motors' Pacer, a small hatchback that made its debut with some fanfare in 1975, made numero uno by more than 2,000 collector car owners. Other cars in the running were the Yugo, a small two door hatchback from Serbia; the Pontiac Aztek; the Ford Edsel and Pinto; and the the Chevrolet Chevette, Corvair, and the Vega.

Our take? One of staff took exception to the Vega making the list. He owned one in the early '70s and while it had problems -- an aluminum block that would warp when the car's engine overheated and a radiator that just didn't do the job to avoid the overheating in the first place -- it wasn't ugly.

We rapidly left the room at the first opportunity.
