They may not need it, but tweaking is in the cards for several models during the coming few years. Models in line for the enhancements include the Aveo, Cobalt, Malibu, Impala, Camaro, Corvette, HHR, Equinox, Trailblazer, Avalanche, Colorado, Silverado, and Uplander. Also, look for some changes in some crossovers and the introduction of microcars and the Volt.
But first, the microcars. General Motors showed off three concepts at the New York Auto Show this year, all smaller than the 2007 Mini Cooper. While these particular cars may not be selected for production, GM is said to be interested in offering microcars to the market and may import one for release in the 2011 model year.
The Aveo will be redesigned for the 2010 model year. Based on the Daewoo Kalso, the new Aveo is said to be longer and wider than the current one.
The Malibu is all-new for 2008. It will be larger than the
2007 version, and the interior and exterior will appear more premium (whatever that means). A hybrid trim is expected (pictured).
A new Camaro is scheduled to appear in January 2009. A convertible is supposed to be introduced several months later.
The Corvette (sigh) will be offered in 2009 limited edition. Pricey with a sticker of $100,000, its 650 horsepower engine will be worth it. An all-new Corvette will be released for sale in the 2013 model year. Despite talk that this Corvette will have its engine in the middle, the engine will be up front. Whew!
The Trailblazer is going the way of the dodo with a new Tahoe/Suburban for 2012.
The Silverado gets a hybrid model next year as a 2009 model year.
Finally, the Volt concept car is not only pushing the electric plug in hybrid, it is also showcasing styling that is expected to appear on the redesigned Malibu and Cobalt.
