Possibly taking advantage of rumors that it's on sale by Ford, automaker Volvo moves forward with a lineup of new and refreshed products.

First, look for a new hatchback from Volvo. According to AutoWeek, it will be the next generation S40, a model that we have known as a sedan, that will be restructured and unveiled in around 2010. And don't be surprised when this incarnation is re-named the V30.

Volvo will be open to a new S60 sedan, historically one of Volvo's biggest sellers. Expected to be the same size as today's S60, it will compete against contemporaries as the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class.

Volvo is also expected to replace its XC90 SUV with a new model in 2011.

Our take? The Volvo C30 (pictured) herald a new vision for the safety-conscious automaker. Personally, we're extremely pleased with the current designs and look forward to the future vehicles. Now, if Volvo would just tune up the engines a bit more....

Volvo might get a few conquest sales with its newer, sportier models, but I don't think it's ever going to be considered a true enthusiast brand. Even its "R" series models never really got the cred they might have deserved. Personally, I'd take a Mazda 3 over a C30 any day, and probably over a "V30" as well. Ironically, the cars are closely related.
