One of Chrysler's biggest successes in its history was the invention of the minivan in 1983. It changed the way American families commuted and traveled on weekends.
Well, that was then, this is now, and the minivan isn't attracting the buyers like it once did.
So, it is time for a reinvention. The "New" Chrysler hopes that the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Caravan minivans will be just what the consumer is looking for.
The 2008 version of the minivan is said to have 35 new or improved features. Most interesting are the second-row seats that swivel and face the rear seats with the ability to mount a table between them, and an entertainment system that allows rear passengers to watch satellite TV while front passengers enjoy Sirius Satellite Radio.
Both minivans also include 13 cup and bottle holders and a powerful, optional 4.0 liter V-6 engine with a six-speed transmission.
The sticker price has been cut, too. The Dodge Grand Caravan starts at $22,470 and the base price of the Town & Country will be $23,190.
Our take? We're keeping our fingers crossed. Chrysler is depending an awful lot on the minivan to move them back into profitability.
