Reports say that Ford Motor Co. intends to sell its Land Rover and Jaguar brands by the end of the summer, and Volvo by the arrival of winter.
According to the New York Times, the troubled automaker has admitted recently that it is talking to a select group of companies about the sale of Land Rover and Jaguar and it also said that it is performing a 'strategic review' as to what to do about Volvo. Financial and legal advisers to Ford are preparing information that such bidders need to see.
Cerberus Capital Management, fresh from its takeover of Chrysler, is said to now be interested in acquiring Land Rover and Jaguar. Other possible bidders include TPG and Tata, an Indian auto manufacturing company.
BMW is interested in Volvo.
Our take? Personally, we're more interested in checking out what Ford does after the sales. How will it focus on its core brands (i.e., Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln)? What will happen to Mazda? Or are other alliances in the works?
