Chevrolet C7 Corvette Engine May Move To Middle

Winding Road Magazine has thrown its two cents in concerning the final outcome of the C7 Corvette in the pages of its latest edition.

First, though, the C7 really isn't supposed to be seen until some time in the next decade but General Motors is already doing advanced work on the next generation Corvette. And people are saying that GM is considering an engine placement that is out of tradition -- behind the driver or even in the middle of the car!

As far as the mid-engine idea is concerned, it's probably Winding Roads' wish, selling a separate version in parallel with the regular mid-engine version. We could even be looking at an all-new interior.

One fact the mag has found out is that introduction is set for 2011. It notes that the year is important to GM and Chevrolet since it is the centennial anniversary for the brand. New products are expected to be introduced at that time.

Our take? Lots of speculation, few facts, but speculating is a lot of fun!

I've heard this rumor floating around. I kind of have mixed feelings about it. I've loved Corvettes since I was a kid. To me, they've always been the iconic American sports car. Which to me, means front-engine, rear-drive, and a powerful V-8.

My vote is for a further refinement of the C6 formula. To me, a mid or rear-engine 'Vette just isn't a 'Vette. If anything, call the mid-engine supercar the "Stingray" or something, but don't mess with the winning formula of the Corvette.

By the looks of this new concept along with a mid engine displacement I think it moves away from the past generation vettes. I don't care for i. The looks are marginal. The deep hood vent looks goddy. Go back to the drawing board I say.
