Mercedes-Benz may be shedding Chrysler but the attitude is not "good riddens."
Instead, reports AutoWeek (via the Florida Times-Union), the two automakers intend to continue to share future technologies such as electrical architectures and SUV chassis parts. The two companies have set up a joint board that will monitor shared projects which will be run on a project-to-project basis. Chrysler will be allowed to work with other car companies as well.
Daimler, which owns Mercedes-Benz, plans also to include assisting Chrysler on other technologies such as active safety systems, Bluetec diesel, and fuel cells.
Our take? Such alliances are not unusual in the auto industry. Have people forgotten that rivals GM and Toyota run a plant together manufacturing the Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix? And Mazda's sedans compete directly with Ford's all-new Fusion and Milan which are based on Mazda's own vehicles!
