Nissan Cars Will Stop For You at Signs

Perhaps Japanese auto manufacturer Nissan no longer trusts drivers to take precautions when they drive its cars.

Or maybe it is a first step toward cars that will do all the driving while we just sit back and read the newspaper or listen to music or even watch a video. In any event, reports Slashgear, Nissan has developed a system that monitors road traffic warnings such as stop signs, and, when appropriate, gives the driver a warning if it doesn't feel the driver is not responding properly.

Full detail on the system, such as its use of a cell phone link, can be found above. Our take? Look for this new technology in Nissan's luxury models first. (Pictured is the Infiniti M.) But the company expects to make it available for its other car models over time. Personally, we can wait for the electronic 'nanny' until we get our first child.

Honestly, with some of dimwits I see on the road with a cell phone permanently attached to the side of their heads, I almost trust a computer to drive more than those distracted drivers. As for me, I still want to have control. Truly independent mobility's days are sadly, probably numbered. My only concern is if future cars are all going to to use GPS satellite guidance, what are we going to do when one of those satellites goes down, or is shot down by one our enemies? Cell-signal triangulation, perhaps?
