Honda Civic Brings Lawsuits As Well As Profits To Automaker

Remember that recent law suit between a customer and a laundry mat in Washington, D.C.? The customer, who happens to be a judge, sued a laundry for losing his pants and demanded more than a million dollars.

Thankfully, his colleagues took the route of common sense and slapped it aside. But with American's great passion for the lawsuit, businesses need to beware how they tout their products or their services.

Well, Honda is now the target of a lawsuit concerning what it touts as the gas mileage of its 2007 Civic Hybrid.

A gentleman named John True purchased a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid in reaction to the rise in prices of gasoline. He was impressed in what Honda said about the hybrid -- that it got 49 miles a gallon in the city and 51 miles per gallon on the highway.

But according to the Detroit News, True claimed that, after about 6,000 miles of driving, his new car was getting an average of 32 mpg in mixed driving. So he sued, believing that Honda is misleading consumers.

Honda is basing part of its case on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which came up with the 49 city/51 highway figures. True's lawyers have now started to try and determine just how many complaints the auto maker has received from its customers as well as find out what the company's own test results showed.

Our take? This could take a while. Stay tuned.
