Former Chrysler CEO Had Role In Cerebus Purchase

A familiar face has been seen at Chrysler's Auburn Hills, Michigan headquarters.

That would be Wolfgang Bernhard, the former CEO of the Chrysler Group during the company's previous turnaround when under the command of DaimlerChrysler AG. According to the Detroit Free Press, Cerberus has signed up Bernhard as a consultant during the actual takeover portion of the acquisition.

Chrysler design chief Ralph Giles called Bernhard's presence "like a reunion." Bernhard had been recently toured Chrysler's new design studio when they met.

Although he is not a part of the Chrysler executive team, Bernhard has an office at the Auburn Hills facility.

Our take? Cerberus has said that Tom LaSorda continues to be Chrysler's CEO with Bernhard is present for LaSorda to call on when needed. Oh, oh! Sounds like George Steinbrenner and Billy Martin. Should LaSorda be looking over his shoulder?
