You know, most of us--gasp!--didn't get masters degree in business, with even a few not even bother with college at all. But we all have enough common sense that you don't stop producing your best-selling product, no matter what the business.
Well, If reports are correct, that's exactly what Jaguar intends to do.
Just like about every major automaker in the world, Jaguar has been losing money in recent years and is right in the middle of a restructuring. According to Drive.com, talk from Down Under (as in Australia) is that Jaguar will stop producing the X-Type and make plans on basing its future on lower volume, higher profit models. It appears that the conservative, old-school styling of the X-Type doesn't attract the attention of the younger set Jaguar now wishes to target. Moreover, Jaguar has never sold more than 100,000 cars since its debut year.
Jaguar is trying to make things sound as if it is in no rush. First, a spokesman was quoted as saying that plans for the X-Type are "not resolved" (whatever that means). The marque is apparently conducting studies in the UK with alternatives are being considered including doing nothing. Is this like a manager of a baseball team who backs his star pitcher 110 percent only to trade him two days later?
Introduced in 2001, the X-Type accounts for about 60 percent of Jaguar's sales in Australia. So if it is dropped, that would be a big blow to Jaguar's Australian dealers.
