Jeep Commander, Pontiac G6 Primed For Recall

Consumer Affairs reports on two possible recalls on DaimlerChrysler's Jeep Commander SUV and General Motor's Pontiac G6 mid-sized sedan.

According to the site, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has started an investigation  of Jeep Commanders concerning unexpected engine stalls. So far the government agency has received about 26 such complaints on model year 2006 - 2007 Jeep Commanders. Owners have reported loss of some or all lighting systems which includes headlamps. Worse, two stalls have resulted in accidents.

DaimlerChrysler announced that it has formed a task force to investigate the problem. NHTSA's inquiry could lead to a recall of up to 136,444 Jeep Commanders.

Power steering loss on the Pontiac G6 is the focus of the agency's investigation. The investigation, which involves  over 176,000 model-year 2005 and 2006 Pontiac G6s, involved already at least one accident one reported injury. So far, there has been 19 complaints, says the NHTSA.
