Suzuki's small econonox, the Suzuki Swift, is on its way back to North America.
Sold between 1995 to 2003, the first Swift was derided by many as an econobox which gives the segment its bad name. Suzuki sees another chance, though, with the current gasoline problem and the Swift will be reappearing on these shores by the year 2010.
The new version promises to be an entertaining car, whether you are an enthusiast, or someone who likes to spend money wisely (or who doesn’t have much money to start with). Power for the upcoming Swift will come from a 1.6 liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 125 hp and a 5-speed transmission.
The current generation of the Swift, if its Asian and European sales are any indication, apparently fixes many of the issues that bothered Swift buyers in its original American incarnation. While we see it still being a car that people will be more likely to use in hauling their groceries around, its overall sportiness look and feel should help it find some interest in the marketplace.
