Now that its ties with Ford have been broken, perhaps it is time for Aston Martin to become more of a risk-taker and start challenging its peers.
Well, the new owners are contemplating doing just that.
According to the Canadian Auto Press (via Carpages), talk is that the company will be producing a mid-engine-sized "supercar" to challenge such notables as the Ferrari Enzo, Porsche Carrera GT, the Mercedes-McLaren SLR, and the Pagani Zonda. (Pictured is the Aston Martin Rally GT.)
This Aston Martin car is designated the "NPX". Information on it, surprisingly, is abundant. The engine, for example, will be a 6.0 liter V12 which will generate 700 horsepower and coupled with a traditional six speed manual transmission (of course). Top speed for the car, say reports, will be 205 mph.
Pricing, at a staggering $400,000, places the NPX above the upcoming Rapide.
Our take? Restricted by its British heritage and its previous ties to an established corporation like Ford, maybe now Aston Martin will be free to release the mean kid that has actually been hidden beneath the surface for all those many years.
