Cadillac Escalade: Here Today, Stolen Tomorrow

As long as there are cars, there will be thieves who steal them. It doesn't really matter of the car is a subcompact, compact, or luxury model.

Forbes recently compiled a list of most stolen luxury vehicles based on data from the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI). According to the organization, the most stolen luxury car is the Escalade SUV. It is the fourth year in a row that the Escalade has won this dubious honor. Perhaps not surprisingly, first quarter sales of the Escalade were up 36 percent over last year. Is that due to people replacing their stolen Escalade?

The BMW 7 Series is second in theft loss rate. Others on the list:

  • Land Rover Range Rover
  • Lexus GS Sedan
  • Lincoln Navigator
  • Mercedes-Benz S-Class
  • Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Convertible

Our take? While we want no one to suffer the anxiety of being robbed (been there, done that, cost lots of couch time at the therapist), potential buyers of bling should give careful consideration the next time they drive out to that Cadillac dealership. Someone else may be checking your ride, too.
