The Hummer was really taking a hit. It was looked upon as too big and ecologically unfriendly. Even some P.R. photos of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, along with that big, gas guzzling Hummer just wasn't putting it in a better light. So, General Motors, maker of the Hummer, took things into its own hands: it started to make smaller Hummers.

Well, GM found that small is good. So look for a new Hummer that's going to give the Nissan Murano and others of its irk the run for the money. Called the H4, the new, smaller is kinder SUV will be position in back of the H3 in the Hummer line.

For those who like the old Hummer and are off-road drivers, don't fret. GM says that the H4 will have "legitimate off-road capability."

It is believed that the H4 will premiere in concept form at an auto show next year.
