Daewoo G2X: Roadster From Sky Hits South Korea

The General wants to get his money's worth out of the Kappa platform. How else to explain the news that GM’s Korean subsidiary, Daewoo, will be coming out with the Daewoo G2X, which looks for all the world like a Saturn Sky with a slightly different grille?

According to Motor Trend Blog, General Motors probably thought that Daewoo’s home market could use a bit of roadster action, because to our knowledge, this is a market slot that's not being filled by the other domestic Korean manufacturers.

The same turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine that's in the Saturn Sky Red Line powers the Daewoo G2X with 260 hp and an equal amount of pound-feet of torque, getting from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5.5 seconds. We don't know what the penalties for speeding are in South Korea, but if a driver is willing to risk penalties for the sake of sheer speed, the G2X's soars to the upper register of its speedometer by posting a cool 141 mph as its maximum velocity.

A writer for the Bangkok Post has speculated that, since Daewoos sold outside Korea often carry Chevrolet badges (as they do in Thailand, not to mention the U.S.), perhaps the G2X will appear with Chevy’s bow-tie badge instead of Daewoo's insignia in other Asian markets.
