According to a BMW spokesman, Norbert Reithofer, CEO of the German automaker, has confirmed that it will start production of a new SUV, the X6, some time next year.

Reithofer provided few details of the crossover. The spokesman stated that it will draw up coupe and SUV design and attributes. And while the new vehicle will be produced at the company’s U.S. plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, starting next year, BMW did not specify when it would debut to the press. (Pictured is the X5 which is currently built at the plant.)

Our take? Expect to see spyshots or news on the X6 by year’s end if not sooner. We expect BMW will debut the crossover at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year at the earliest or at next year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
