The 'new' Mustang, which was introduced in the fall of 2004, has experienced a drop in sales to start 2007.
Ford sold 160,975 Mustangs in 2005 and 166,530 in 2006. In 2007, sales have declined by 19 percent in January and February compared to the same two months last year.
The drop is worrying Ford, and rightly so. The iconic car is one of its best sellers. But for some reason, the press has been reporting that Ford is looking to drop the model.
Well, think again. The company plans new variations to the design to keep the car fresh and exciting. New versions of the Shelby GT Mustang has begun shipping while Ford plans to roll out a dark green version next year of the Mustang reminiscent of the 1968 Fastback Mustang GT that Steve McQueen drove in the classic movie, Bullitt.
Also, plans a new promotional campaign in the spring and summer, traditionally Mustang’s best sales months, are in the works. Ford says that it has other things in the planning stages but refuses to make any comment.
Our take? Geez, a few months of bad sales and suddenly the press is writing an obituary.
