One of Hyundai’s constant mottos is Toyota quality and value but less than Toyota price. Well, with the new Veracruz SUV, the Korean automaker is aiming to challenge Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus using the same tactics.
But Lexus shoppers don’t normally shop at Hyundai. The actual competitors, agree the auto media and consumers, are the Honda Pilot and the Toyota Highlander. (Sorry, Hyundai.) The new Veracruz starts at $26,995 with the base GLS trim. That roughly matches the Honda Pilot LX ($27,095) but less than the Toyota Highlander equipped with a V6 and third-row seating ($26,790). Feature-wise, it matches its competitors though does not offer a navigation system.
The Veracruz comes in three trims (GLS, SE, and limited) each offering either forward or all-wheel drive. The six-speed automatic is attached to a lone 260 horsepower, 3.8 liter, V6 engine.
Full details can be found in the links below. The Veracruz is scheduled to on sale in the upcoming months. Our take? According to Hyundai, the Veracruz is actually more quiet than the Lexus RX, a major trademark for the Toyota brand. Is that why the press release has it compared to Lexus?
