Could it be that, like Superman swooping into Metropolis to save the day, there are American made cars that will swoop in and save Detroit? Derek Price of the Greenville Texas Herald Banner thinks so.

He identifies the Ford Interceptor, the Dodge Demon, and the Chevrolet Volt as these heroes.

The Ford Interceptor is a concept car that was introduced just this year. Price likes its “machismo” styling like Chrysler’s 300C. He also thinks it could help Ford off of trucks and SUVs.

Price likes the Dodge Demon because it can be used to lure potential car buyers back into the Dodge dealerships so that they can reconsider other models offered by the company. He brings up the experience of Mazda with its Miata (now MX-5). He asserts that while Mazda does not sell a lot of Miatas, its sports car has become the spirit of the company and keeps Mazda in the consumers’ psyche.

Price also called out the Dodge Viper. He noted that young male teens love that car. Problem is that the Viper is very, very expensive. So when these kids grow up and discover the cost of their dream, they turn to another car. The Demon, Price asserts, can take back some of those kids because it is affordable.

Finally, Price identifies the Chevrolet Volt as a potential savior because, as an electric car, it will give Detroit a better appearance as far as the green part of the population is concerned. Also, it looks a whole lot better than those green cars from Japan.

Our take? Maybe the big three in Detroit can come up with a series of joint ads that present these cars like the characters of NBCs hit series Heroes.
