The International Herald Tribune reports that Fuji Heavy Industries Limited, which owns Subaru, has issued a recall of over 850 of its vehicles.

The issue of concern is that the air cleaner case could damage the brake pipe and cause a loss of brake fluid. Such a loss could disable the auto’s brake system.

Affected vehicles include the Impreza sedan and Forester station wagon. It is not yet know if such vehicles exported to countries as the U.S. have been affected.

Our take? Normally we’d recommend owners to contact their dealership to schedule an appointment. But since this recall may only involve vehicles in Japan, we suggest owners to, instead, monitor their Impreza and Forester brake fluid levels while continuing to watch the news.
