Ford had announced way back in September that it was going to manufacture this crossover but had not given it a name until now. Another name being considered was Fairlane. But it was determined that the name was too much associated to the original 1950s sedan.
Referred to by some as "the people mover," the Flex is based on the Fairlane concept (pictured) Ford showcased at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit back in 2005. The Flex features a boxy exterior design, five doors, and three rows of seating.
The production version is scheduled to (possibly) be unveiled at the New York Auto Show in April. The Flex will be constructed at Ford's Oakville, Ontario, Canadian plant and it is planned that 100,000 units will be produced a year.
