Most auto designers turn to Europe to get inspiration to develop the latest concepts and model. Look, for example, at the Ford Five Hundred (now Taurus) and many Japanese vehicles. This time, though, one German automaker drew upon U.S. designs for its upcoming wagon.
Automobile Magazine reports that, for an upcoming Passat-based wagon, Volkswagen drew up the Dodge Magnum and its “in-your-face” design. Design motto for the wagon, in sharp contrast to previous VW designs, basically is “lower, wider, and flatter”: wide body with a low roof tapering to a flat rear.
Interior is typical German luxury like heated—and massaging!—seats. Power will come from either a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo or 3.6-liter inline V6 (VR6) engine.
Availability and pricing have yet to be determined. Our take? Sounds like the Neeza concept car displayed at last year’s Beijing International Exhibition in China. Still too conservative compared to its inspiration but different enough to appeal to Europeans and those Americans who want the look without the badge.
