The B9 Tribeca, which went on sale in mid-2005 in the U.S. as a 2006 model, received mixed reviews for its 'propeller' grill and scant third-row seating. Complaints of both apparently resulted in slow sales for Subaru’s first large crossover.
A more conventional styling, which can be seen here on the upcoming WRX, mostly likely will be on the new model as well.
Our take? Though we agree with much of the press about the Subaru's front fascia, we do applaud the company for taking risks, unusual for a Japanese automaker.
Otherwise, except for the third-row seating issue, reviews on the Tribeca's ride, handling, and fit and finish have been positive. We're pleased to hear that Subaru has modified the crossover's already powerful engine to use regular gasoline instead of premium. That'll definitely be a savings for owners and upgrade Subaru’s reputation.
