Among enthusiasts, Hyundai Motor Co. is well-known for aping its rival, Toyota Motor Corp., on everything from body style to quality to sales tactics.
Now it looks like the Korean automaker is also aiming to match the world’s second largest automaker on environmental commitment.
How? The latest news in the autosphere is that Hyundai will debut a new SUV at next month’s Geneva Motor Show. Only two things are known about the crossover so far: the sketch (see image) and that the automaker has co-developed it with GE Plastics, a GE company well-known for its, well, plastic development technology. According to reports, this new SUV will be more “environmentally” friendly than any vehicle previously built by any automaker.
Our take? The design looks interesting. As for Hyundai’s environmental commitment, we’re taking the “wait and see” attitude until we see specs. We’ve read plenty of “green promises” by companies whose words were not worth the trees destroyed to create the paper they were printed on.
