Is another Cadillac revolution afoot?
The Cadillac CTS, which debuted in 2003, sparked the name plate to the top of the luxury car field. Seems another one is upon us and the first beneficiary is the CTS again.
As previously reported (see below), the next incarnation of the CTS will be revamped from exterior and interior and everything in between including a new engine. The CTS-V, for example, is expected to challenge the BMW M3 with its 400 horsepower, 6.0 liter V-8 engine with six speed transmission and performance tuned suspension.
Another beneficiary of the revolution is the new Escalade. The SUV will be powered by an all-new 6.2 liter aluminum V-8 engine that generates 403 horsepower. A new rack and pinion steering system is said to improve the vehicle’s handling. There will be three versions of the new Escalade -- the EXT sports utility truck; the ESV, an extended length model; and the regular Escalade.
Our take? The Cadillac brand is a rare success for the struggling automaker. We just hope the changes for the marques like Buick and Pontiac will do just as well (since those are the only ones we can afford).
