General Motors To Build Hybrid Trucks In Canada

We’ve just discovered that Canadians have not been able to enjoyed the use of hybrid cars actually built in Canada because no manufacturers are building hybrids in the Great White North. Well, that’s about to change.

General Motors of Canada has announced it will be building hybrid pickup trucks which will be released into the Canadian market in the fall of 2008.

The Oshawa Truck Assembly plant in Ontario will be manufacturing the hybrid Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra (pictured are the standard versions).

Ford Motor Company of Canada will be joining shortly afterwards as it builds hybrid versions of two crossover SUVs in 2010.

Our take? Though we know the CAW works closely with the UAW, we have to wonder if there's not a bit of jealously on the latter's part.
