For those not in the know, iPhone is the camera phone/Web-surfing/multimedia-playing/cellphone combo unveiled by Apple during the Macworld Conference & Expo last month. The system will be on sale at the beginning of the third quarter of this year at a starting price of $500.
The iPhone is controlled through a touchscreen. From the article, the BMW system looks like it integrates the iPhone’s functionality into the 7-Series’ iDrive or similar system.
Our take? The report is supposedly through a highly-placed source within BMW, which is always suspect. Personally, we would not be surprised if it proves true given the automaker’s push for all things cutting edge. On the other hand, we recommend buyers wait until the bugs are worked out first. Otherwise, don’t be surprised if your call to Mom opens the 7’s trunk (or locks all the windows).
