For years, Hyundai has hinted that it plans to move its brand more upscale. Well, its first major endeavour in that direction, the Veracruz, shows its more than up to the task.

Last week, Hyundai announced that it will start selling the SUV in the U.S. next month. The full-sized Veracruz, the automaker’s third crossover following the new Tuscan and the all-new Santa Fe, will compete against the Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, the Nissan Murano, and its major rival, Toyota and its 4Runner.

Details on the SUV can be found in the links below. Starting price is around $30,000. Our take? Initial reviews and reactions from the press and public have been positive. We’d like to see more roadtests, though, before declaring Hyundai is on its way up the foodchain.
