The Consumer Reports love Japanese cars as far as reliability is concerned, and its fondness continues in the magazine's annual survey.
The top five are Acura, Honda, Lexus, Scion, and Toyota, with Honda and Toyota scoring highest overall in the 2007 Annual Car Reliability Survey. This marks the second time in the 10 year history of this list that all of the top car picks are Japanese made.
The highest placed U.S. brand is Ford’s Mercury in 10th place. General Motors best ranking has been achieved by GMC, which is ranked 14th. Chrysler’s Dodge brand came in 22nd on the list. Korean Hyundai entered the top 10 list for the first time this year coming at seventh. Not surprisingly, German brands such as Mercedes-Benz were, again, towards the bottom of CR's list. In fact, it has put the Mercedes-Benz CLS, M-Class, and R-Class on its “Not Recommended” list because of failing reliability.
The report is based on responses from more than 1.3 million magazine subscribers.
