Late in 2007 or 2008 the curtain will be raised on a phenomenon that has captured the imagination of Japanese car enthusiasts since 1989 -- the Nissan R, which has only been sold in Japan.

As fans know, the car will be powered by a 3.7 litre Nissan VQ engine with two turbochargers which generate a staggering 450 horsepower and 360lb.-ft. of torque.

The sixth generation of the R has a luxurious price of $70,000 and is touted as being the most “alluring” Japanese sports car to come out since the Acura NSX was introduced in the mid-1990s.

Our take? Could this be a new rival for the Porsche 911 Turbo? Well, reports say that it negotiated a test track at more than 110 miles per hour with a lap time reported to be around 8 minutes flat. We are just going to have to wait til later this year or 2008 to see if it can catch the 911 in both speed and sales.
