Well, it seems that Acura has decided to start with a clean slate as far as development of its NSX is concerned. When the concept car was shown at the recent Detroit Auto Show, it was just a facade, literally. The mock-up did not include an engine or an interior and to assure that no one could look inside the windows were blacked out.
Talk was that the concept car would be truly ready for the Tokyo Show in October. Well, guess again. Sources close to the development say that everything has been abandoned and things are starting from scratch. Only the most basic proportions and V-10 engine would carry over.
Our take? Seems like the pressure is on, with competitors Toyata via its Lexus brand showing off its LF-A while Nissan preps its Skyline GT-R for sale in the U.S. But it looks like Honda's going to avoid both companies by another strategy: price.
The NSX was supposed to end up at a price of $90,000. But Acura execs are thinking more in the line of $150,000. At that price tag, the new NSX is rubbing taillights with the Aston Martin DB9.
So it appears that the NSX customer target is far more exclusive that originally thought.
