It looks like American car manufacturers can’t buy a break.
Six class action lawsuits have been filed against Ford claiming that certain of its vehicles are defective and unsafe.
The plaintiff in this case is Jeffrey Lowe, a resident of St. Louis, Missouri. And he has a pretty long list why he thinks Ford cars are defective and unsafe:
- The speed control deactivation switch is always energized even when the vehicle is off and the transmission is in Park.
- The circuit for the speed control deactivation switch does not include a fused wiring harness that could interrupt the power if it starts to overheat due to a short.
- Vacuum pressure from the brake system can wear out the system quicker.
- The speed control deactivation switch is mounted in such a way as to increase chances of a possible fire.
Lowe is an attorney who represents six people who own Ford vehicles with the defective switch. A discussion of their issues can be found in the article. Lowe claimed that there has been 65 fires caused by the switch's failure.
Our take? We're familar with some of the issues and recalls discussed in the lawsuit, some of which have reached national attention. As of yet, Ford has not replied to Lowe's lawsuit at press time.
