Forbes Takes The Low/High Road For Best/Worse Sellers

We've barely entered the new year but Forbes.com decided to list what it considers the best and worse selling cars for 2007.

The editors must have meant 2006. Anway, they concluded in the article, for their article, that the worse selling cars are the ones with the lowest sales volume and often offered at the highest prices.

First in their sights was the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Coupe. Selling at $453,000, it was “far and away its most expensive." Next mentioned is the Dodge Viper priced ($82,000) and the Land Rover Range Rover SUV ($77,000). These are not exactly high selling cars.

But there's a difference between cars whose sales are just disappointing versus those that are true sales busts. The Acura RL is, shockingly for a Honda product, in the latter after it experienced a sales drop of 35 percent in 2006.

Other cars that made Forbes list include:

  • BMW 6-Series - Base Price: $73,900. Sales down 6%
  • Acura RL - Base Price: $45,780. Sales down 35%
  • Audi A8 Sedan - Base Price: $68,900 Sales down 7%
  • Buick Terraza - Base Price: $27,425. Sales down 41% (Pictured)
  • Cadillac XLR - Base Price: $78,920. Sales down 14%

Our take? We're all taken aback by the Forbes list (with the exception of the Terraza, which has been discontinued). But the figures show that the wealthy are quite fickle in taste and plenty of technology (Acura RL), innovative design (Cadillac XLR) and sheer power (BMW 6-Series) don't guarantee sales.
