The Chrysler Group recently announced that the 2014 Ram 1500 with the V-6, 305 horsepower engine has the ability to tow 7,450 pounds, which puts it at the top of the segment for all V-6 engines. New parking system components have also been added to the exclusive eight-speed transmission to allow for a greater tow rating.
“There was more towing capacity in the V-6 Ram 1500 but we needed to upgrade the transmission to hold the truck and trailer when parked on steep grades. Now that we’re building the transmissions ourselves, the improvements are included in the new assembly,” said Mike Cairns, Chief Engineer, Ram Truck.
Along with best-in-class towing, the new Ram 1500 now offers a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel towing capacity with a rating of 9,200 pounds, which starts to close in on V-8 capabilities. As of now, there is no direct competitor for the Ram 1500 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel. It achieves better fuel economy than the brand’s 3.6-liter V-6 gas engine that’s rated at 25 mpg.
