The 2014 Ford Fiesta has earned best-in-class highway fuel economy, making it the only car in the subcompact class to get more than 40 mpg highway. The new Fiesta also receives 30 mpg city, and 34 mpg combined. However, these numbers were achieved on the Fiesta SE with the Super Fuel Economy package.
The new Ford Fiesta will be arriving at dealerships soon, and will likely sell very well as fuel economy has become the top reason for purchase decisions. “The 2014 model is shaping up to be a game changer for Fiesta. With the addition of Fiesta ST and the award-winning 1.0-liter EcoBoost, we have fantastic performance and fuel efficiency. But with today’s news, buyers will have a fuel-efficient Fiesta no matter which they choose,” said Liz Elser, Ford Fiesta marketing manager in a recent interview.
The Fiesta achieves these high numbers thanks to its advanced aerodynamics and dry, dual-clutch PowerShift automatic transmission. The SFE package adds a rear spoiler, side air deflectors, underbody shields, lower grille blockers, and more to help decrease the amount of fuel necessary to push the car through air when up to speed.
The PowerShift dual-clutch automatic transmission consists of two manual transmissions working in parallel. Each has an independent clutch that is controlled by computers as well as electromechanical actuators that shift gears. The new Fiesta, on top of receiving best-in-class fuel economy also has best-in-class technologies and features, including a new MyFord Touch system and Ford MyKey.
