Sorry, Chevrolet Corvette enthusiasts, but the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado is the most important vehicle that General Motors will launch this year. Traditionally selling upwards of 400,000 pickup trucks each year, the Silverado represents GM’s cash cow and the lifeblood of the company.
With a redesigned truck that debuted before the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, Chevrolet has shown us the direction its money-maker is going. Now, we know a little more, as the configurator for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado has gone live, showing us the full color palette, wheel choices, and most of the options packages available for it.
When it goes on sale later this year, the 2014 Silverado will be available with either two- or four-wheel drive, a regular cab, extended cab with four front-hinged doors like what’s been available in the Ram 1500 for a while, or a crew cab configuration in medium-duty configuration. It’ll also have a choice of regular or extended bed lengths.
The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado will also be available in 10 colors, seven wheel options, and six trim levels. Chevrolet’s heavily upgraded 4.3-liter V-6 will come as standard equipment on Work Truck and LT trim levels, and its 5.3-liter V-8 will come standard on LTZ models. There’s still no mention of horsepower or torque numbers for any of the engines, and Chevrolet’s configurator is mum on the new 6.2-liter V-8 engine that’s expected to be among the most powerful in a full-size pickup truck.
Chevrolet says the new Silverado will go into production during the second quarter of 2013, and deliveries are expected to start shortly thereafter. If you’re looking at a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, be sure to check out the configurator here and see how your future baby might look when it rolls off the production line later this year.
