Hey, Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, the party’s over. The entry-level luxury sedan class is about to get one more member as the 2014 Audi A3 sedan bows next week at the New York Auto Show. We’ve already seen the new Audi A3 hatchback, overseas, an update on the luxury hatchback we’ve gotten in the U.S. for the past few years. But the hatch has never sold in great numbers in the U.S., and a whole new class of luxury sedans has opened up as cars like the Audi A4 have gotten larger and more expensive.
We can’t see too much from the video outside of the fact that the car shown as diamond-quilted leather adorning its sedans–not typically something you’d find in a German car outside of some high-dollar steel–but don’t expect it to differ too much from the two-year-old A3 sedan concept (pictured). We expect that it’ll come with the same 140-horsepower TDI 2.0-liter engine as the current car and also get a 2.0-liter gas engine pumping out somewhere in the range of 200 horsepower. Like the current car and the rival CLA, front-wheel drive will be standard and all-wheel drive will be available.
The debut of the 2014 Audi A3 sedan is set to as an online exclusive on March 27, as it will not be shown at the New York Auto Show itself. Funnily enough, Mercedes-Benz did the same thing when it came time for the CLA’s North American introduction, hosting it at an offsite party in Detroit. We’ll bring you more details as they roll in, but expect Audi’s posh little sedan to bring a fight to the Mercedes as well as other entry-lux cars like the Acura ILX, Buick Verano, and BMW 320i.
