Months away from hitting European streets, and a debut on these shores slated for sometime in the fall, Mini is busy coming up with ways for you to pay attention to its latest John Cooper Works model, in the form of a 2013 Countryman. Apparently, it’s not up for trying too hard.
Playing off of the flying squirrel suit phenomenon that took the web by storm a couple years back (and Acura used in its Super Bowl commercial this year with Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno), Mini chose a remote desert locale to showcase its new ride. The new John Coopers Works Countryman technically could launch a person in a suit— the small 1.6-liter engine packs a mighty 211 horsepower, and a respectable 0-60 mph time of about seven seconds with a manual transmission. With some clever camera work it appears the JCW Countryman reaches enough speed to launch the squirrel-suit-man. We think it falls a little flat, but you can decide for yourself:
