The redesigned 2013 Lexus GS has been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The GS received a score of “Good,” the highest possible, in front, side, rollover, and rear impact testing. Lexus’ large luxury sedan joins the Lexus RX SUV and CT200h hybrid as the third in the automaker’s range to be named a Top Safety Pick since the institute revised its evaluations to include roof-strength and rollover testing.

Lexus restyled the 2013 GS to help it better compete with the BMW 5-Series and Audi A6. Those cars, along with the Hyundai Genesis, were also given the designation of Top Safety Pick by the IIHS. A 2013 Lexus GS 350 starts at $46,900, and features a 3.5-liter V-6 capable of producing 306-hp, which is competitive for the class.
