The 2013 Honda Accord and 2013 Ford Fusion will be two of the coming year’s best-sellers, and now you can play around with the automakers’ online configurators and build your own. We’ve recently driven both, and think the two midsize sedans each have much to offer those shopping the segment. Honda’s configurator—while looking alarmingly dated—is pretty easy to use. You can choose from eight models and trims, with the base 2013 Honda Accord LX starting at $21,680 not including $790 for delivery. We optioned an Accord Sedan Touring model, with a standard six-speed automatic transmission, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a full complement of bells and whistles, up to $39,385.
Ford’s configurator fares marginally better aesthetically, but like Honda’s, is straightforward and easy to use. We were able to option a 2013 Ford Fusion Titanium with all-wheel-drive to $40,010. Options include: premium 19-inch aluminum wheels; voice-activated navigation; a 12-speaker audio system; and a portable rear-DVD player. While both Honda and Ford offer up $40K models, the vast majority of shoppers will opt for less premium models. After all the midsize segment—home to the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord—isn’t naturally associated with flashy shoppers (although a couple of automakers from Korea, may slowly change that).
