If you’re looking for a sneak peek at the 2013 GMC Acadia, but the usual rumors and whispers automotive sites just aren’t doing it, well, you’ve been looking in the wrong place. Turns out the horse’s mouth, GMC’s own consumer website, broke its own embargo and posted a PDF version of the 2013 Acadia brochure late last night.
File this one under “whoopsiedoodle.” Either that, or it’s a well-calculated move to generate buzz at a show that, frankly, is a little thin on debuts. If that’s the case, then well played, GMC.
The jump-the-gun brochure is filled with, well, everything new about the Acadia. The look is recognizable as GMC’s big crossover, but with a new nose and tail that more closely resembles the smaller GMC Terrain crossover. It’s a good update though, substantial and chunky. We like the headlight treatment especially. The taillights are also redesigned, and there are a few other subtle details here and there.
Inside, GMC says it put a lot of effort into updating the interior to something that better reflects the Acadia’s price tag, which can venture near the $50,000 range in Denali models. New soft-touch plastics, a refined audio and climate control interface, and a redesigned dash top with red accent lighting top the list of changes.
What isn’t different is what’s under the hood, with GMC sticking with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine and available all-wheel drive. Runors had swirled that GMC may install a turbocharged four-cylinder under the hood as a base model to better compete against the Ford Explorer, but apparently that’s not the case.
