For those waiting for another luxurious heavy duty truck from Ford, your wait is officially over. In an effort to join the ranks of Chevrolet and GMC with their luxury truck offerings, Ford will be releasing the 2013 F-Series Super Duty Platinum later this year. Ford promises the Super Duty Platinum edition will be filled with luxury amenities but will still deliver on the brand’s renowned toughness.
“The F-Series Super Duty Platinum is the latest expression of Built Ford Tough truck luxury,” said Brian Rathsburg, F-Series Super Duty Marketing manager. “It has a distinct appearance and a long list of features to deliver a superior experience. Along with that, it has all of the capability F-Series trucks are famous for.”
Some features Rathsburg is talking about include Sync, MyFord Touch, navigation, rear-view backup camera, a remote start system, power-adjustable pedals, and power-telescoping mirrors. There’s enough chrome on the 2013 Ford F-Series Super Duty Platinum to permanently quench your thirst for all things shiny. The door handles, mirror caps, running boards, and exhaust tip have all been doused in chrome. The “Platinum” logo found on both sides of the truck’s front-body panel has been outfitted in chrome too. The F-Series Super Duty Platinum rolls along on 20-inch polished aluminum wheels with black inserts as well.
Since the SuperDuty F-Series is Ford’s answer to the heavy duty truck market, the Platinum edition will blend luxury features with big buttons and easy-access climate control settings to accommodate people wearing work gloves. MyFord Touch and Sync have also been integrated into the latest F-Series Super Duty Platinum, and designed with a work truck’s daily tasks in mind. With Sync either the driver or passengers can connect their mobile device to the media player through Bluetooth or a USB input. Drivers can also access the Vehicle Health Report and 911 Assist, both of which are free of cost for the duration of the truck’s life. MyFord Touch will also be available in the F-Series Super Duty for the first time and can be seen through an 8-inch screen. With MyFord Touch you can access your phone while keeping your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road ahead. MyFord Touch also controls the entertainment and navigation, climate controls, and has been given an expanded lexicon.
The 2013 Ford F-Series Super Duty Platinum edition is the latest in a long line of luxury trucks that hail from Dearborn Michigan. In 1999 Ford introduced the Harley-Davidson F-150 for the 2000 model year followed by the King Ranch Super Duty in 2003. A year later the Harley-Davidson Super Duty joined Ford’s oversized luxury truck lineup and today Ford continues to cater to a niche’ market seeking luxury trucks with heavy duty capabilities.
The F-Series Super Duty Platinum edition will be available on the F-250, F-350, and F-450 with two engine choices. The first is the 6.7-liter Power Stoke diesel engine designed and built in-house by Ford. The second is a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that runs on gasoline. The 2013 Ford F-Series will go on sale later this year.
