We’re just a week away from the Paris Auto Show, and news of what will be on display as well as new details are still coming in. Yesterday Audi said the 2013 Audi A3 Sportback five-door model would be shown in Paris, and today we’re getting details on the A3′s jock brother, the S3. We previously thought the A3 Sportback would be coming to the U.S., but it appears Europe may hog that model for the time being. The automaker hasn’t given any official word on the U.S. status of the 2013 Audi S3.
While on paper the sporty hatchback’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline powered engine may appear the same, this one is all new. It weighs less, produces 300 hp, and gets very good fuel economy. The 2013 Audi S3 will also feature the S-badges applied to the usual suspects—tires, steering wheel, seatbacks, door sills—and will come with a starting price of about $50,000 in Germany. Aside from boasting 300 hp on a very light body, Audi says the new S3 can hit 60mph from rest in about 5 seconds when paired with the optional S-Tronic automatic transmission with shift-paddles, and a few tenths of a second more with the standard six-speed manual transmission. True to the S-line, Audi has given the S3 the automaker’s all-wheel-drive Quattro system, that give the car added grip and capability in wet and slick weather conditions. Other sporty touches abound, such as grey instrument dials with white needles, brushed aluminum pedals, and 18-inch tires.
