A new nose, upgraded interior, and possibly a new transmission will grace the 2012 Honda Pilot when the vehicle goes on sale this September.
Replacing the earlier Pilot’s flat, pentagonal grille design is a three-bar motif similar to the Accord Crosstour and redesigned 2012 CR-V. The automaker also says it redesigned the Pilot to be more aerodynamic, though any changes are too subtle to spot in the photo Honda released. Honda dropped the Mocha Metallic exterior color option and replaced it with Dark Amber Metallic.
The 2012 Honda Pilot’s interior gets a refreshed instrument cluster and center stack that uses more premium materials and has a simplified layout. Honda says the audio and navigation systems get an upgrade as well.
No word on mechanical changes, but rumors persist that the Pilot’s 3.5-liter V-6 engine will be mated to the company’s new six-speed automatic transmission, currently found in the Odyssey minivan. Honda is promising an improvement in the Pilot’s fuel economy, which currently stands at an EPA-estimated 16 mpg city / 22 mpg highway.
