2012 Detroit Auto Show: Toyota to Debut NS4 Plug-in Hybrid

Consumers may be scrambling for last minute holiday gifts, but our attention is already focused on the new year. Specifically, the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.

And with good reason. First luxury automaker Lexus teased with exterior and interior shots of a new concept car which it plans to debut at the Detroit Auto Show. Now parent company Toyota has released its own teaser.

Nominally named the Toyota NS4 (or NS-4), all we have of the concept vehicle at this time is the shot of the vaguely Acura-esqe right headlamp, along with a statement from Toyota that the NS4 is “an advanced plug-in hybrid concept”. Other sources indicate the Toyota NS4 will be a coupe.

Toyota is in the processing of expanding its hybrid offerings. Its Prius lineup is rapidly becoming a sub-brand, and in addition to the familiar Prius liftback now includes the larger Toyota Prius v, the upcoming Prius Plug-in, and the entry level Prius c, which also bows in Detroit. But this NS4 sounds like a different beast, more akin to the automaker’s mainstream Camry line. Of interest is that the NS4 may be a coupe. If so, it will be the first one in years since the demise of the Toyota Camry Solara.

The Toyota NS4 concept vehicle is scheduled to unveiled on Tuesday, January 10th, 2012.
